Am new to the idea of eating less carbs And would like to know how do I work out my carb intake. I am managing to get bloods down and am pleased with results, but need more guidance
 
I've been using 'Diet Doctor as the web site has loads of recipes and advice, there are guides on this site as well that are great.
Have a good look around there's lots of advice on LCHF diets. Good luck :happy:

Basically, you find out how many grams of carbohydrate there are in the food in question (the packaging is often very helpful),, then you add all the foods in your meal together, and get a total of grams for that meal.

IF there is a label on the food, then that is the easiest way. Just see how many g are in 100 g of the food, and guesstimate the size of your portion. So if 100 g has 40g carbs, and you are eating 50g then that is 20g of carbs that you are eating.

Often the packaging has the carb content listed by portion as well, so a slice of bread may be 22 g, or 16 g, depending on the brand.

Alternatively, if your food doesn't have a label then you can go online to somewhere like Tescos supermarket's website and look the food up there. They almost certainly show the nutritional values.

Another way is the buy the book (or App) Carbs and Cals. It shows a picture of each food, in different portion sizes, and tells you the grams in each size.
 
There is an excellent book called Carbs & Cals, available from Amazon. (also an app). It is a superb book with literally thousands of photos of common foods served on a plate. Each photo shows the weight, grams of carbs, protein, calories, fats and fiber. It was my bible when I first started this game, and I still use it now. Well worth buying it.

You can also look at the nutritional data on the packaged foods. Look for total carbs (not the "of which" sugars.) Estimate what your portion size will be and work out from that how many grams of carbs you will be eating. The total carbs will tell you how many grams of carbs per 100g. In other words, the percentage of carbs in every single portion you eat. If you only have a small blob, then it doesn't matter, but if you have the whole tin then it does matter.

You can also use the websites of the major supermarkets. Tesco list all the nutrients of their products.
