Lowest carbs possible an lowest sugars possible. Try to keep carbs less than 5g per 100g this is clearly marked on the label.

Ignore the sugars, just look for the Total Carb count. As Bio says looking for less than 5g per 100g is a good way of going.

You should probably pick a number of carbs per day, and test your blood after each meal to see if it's too many or too litte.

50 to 130g a day would be a good place to start.

You can also get a Collins Gem carb counter book which list the carb total for most foods. I got mine on Amazon for about £2.50 and it's small enough to pop in your pocket or bag.

I have one of these and they really are quite handy. The best thing to do is to cook all food from scratch where you can. If you are wondering about certain things, a quick tip, go onto the web page of the supermarket you usually use, look at the item you want to know about then click the nutritional information. Just watch out what amount of grams of the product they are using for their figures. One other tip that I do. Plan your meals at least a day in advance, then you can make sure you know exactly how many grams of carbs you are eating before you eat, rather than waiting until it's gone and realising accidentally you had too many.
