Low energy after eating, but with normal sugars

So my energy levels decrease significantly after I eat even though my sugar might stay in line or only increase slightly like (5-8mmol). Also I feel thirsty. Does anyone has an idea why this happens and what should I do about it?

Hello @Vilius - Sounds more like a medical question for your GP, if you're BG levels are staying in range then there should be no reason why you feel tired and thirsty after eating, as you know higher levels would have this effect though but not in the ranges you've indicated.

Hi
There are different reasons why this could be happening but i can only point out what happens to me personally and perhaps it might make sense......
I'm 55 and in my 50th year of diabetes and have a pretty physical job so after a long day i walk home and eat a quite carb heavy evening meal.
My levels stay ok most of the time.
I'm knackered because of the day i've had and its not necessarily diabetes related?
I may well be thirsty because of the meal i've just consumed or maybe because i've not had a drink in a while?
I sometimes have a glass of wine with my meal which unless i shake a leg after eating sends me to sleep !
The passage of time is catching up with me i'm afraid and i'm not as young as i used to was!! lol

It may not be your diabetes it could just be you and i mean that in the nicest possible way....

Are you finger pricking or using a libre as if you are reading 8 on the libre it could be a little higher?
My own body is a battlefield during and just after food.
The insulin is fighting the food and the days activity is fighting them both!

I wish you well

Tony

I think some amount of "postprandial somnolence" is normal, and not just for diabetics.

With big carby/fatty meals (like a Christmas dinner), even if I absolutely nail the dose and timing and stay perfectly in range, I can get a bit sleepy.
Likewise some thirst seems normal, particularly if what you ate was salty.

Though if this is something extreme or it's just come on recently and with small meals that didn't have this effect before, it might be worth asking your GP about.

I’m T2 diet only and risking cross posting but I was very similar, thirsty after meals and a bit tired but BG well within range, I was drinking small glass of sugar free Irn Bru only with meals (one of my few vices) didn’t have it for a few days and noticed the thirst wasn’t happening and I had more energy. So tried going back to it and it happened again.

It may not be this but I put it down to the sweeteners in the pop not affecting my BG at all but causing the other problems, I’ve stopped drinking it now and it doesn’t happen anymore
