Well my cholesterol is up on lchf diet.
Big people like me dont need cheese and cream.
Mind u im losing weight, slowly.
Fat helping me lose weight?
I need to change from dairy fats to better fats.

Sorry to hear your your cholesterol is high .. Mine did increase, but it was the good cholesterol .. so no problem for me.
How many carbs are you on a day .. I do around 20g a day and the weight just fell off to start with .. 5st in 2 years I am happy with that. Eating fat will not make you fat if you are on low carbs .. but the carbs must be low ...
Do you have your cholesterol numbers ?

I had no problem with low carb, low fat, and shed a lot of weight that way.
Then I re-introduced good, non saturated fats, and again, no problems.

A few don't like the phrase 'low fat' here, but I figured I already had enough of my own, I wasn't going to run out.

My Cholesterol Levels have gone down from 7.7 to 5.9 since March. I am not mainlining fat and eating it for the sake of eating it but am certainly not shying away from eating cheese, cream, goose fat etc.

I have also lost 13 kilos since March and 22 cms from my waist.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Could i ask ... (in a nice way) if your not eating fat and only eating 20g of carbs a day ..where do you get your energy from ? I tried it for a day and felt so ill .. I must have got something wrong

I am eating fat......where did you get the idea I was not my comment was I was not mainlining and eating it for the sake of eating it which is where some folks on LCHF do get it wrong. LCHF does not mean you can eat a pack of butter and a kilo of cheese at a sitting.

I would say my body, it certainly used to have a lot to spare.
Energy wasn't an issue, the body is resourceful, it lays it down well, it burns it when it needs to.

And to be honest, a one day fast isn't that long, one poster on here is doing a seven day fast. @KevinPotts

I guess I'm just lucky, or maybe it is others that are unlucky.
Saturated fats and dairy have had no adverse effects on my lipids, in fact the opposite.
We each have to find our own way of doing things, a way that suits our personal metabolism

If you've been on LCHF for more than a couple of weeks or so you should be adapted to burning fat for energy and my personal experience given those conditions is that a single day fast is straightforward.

Are you sure you were fully ketone adapted prior to your single day fast, as the condition of feeling awful that you describe is unusual:

Sorry @ickihun to hear that. If you want to lose weight eating fat isn't the answer. Of course we need some fats but as Lindy said we don't need to over do it. I hold onto saturated fat and dairy fat but avocado, olive oil and mayo in moderate amounts aren't a problem. I don't need to lose weight. What types of fat are you eating? Also I agree IN THE ABSENSE OF CARBS fat will not make you fat, unless overdone of course, but if you are eating carbs it will be a disaster. I eat less than 20 a day, mostly salad greens

I felt fine, i was low calorie, so low fat and low carb with no issue.
It was @Enclave that felt ill after one day on reduced fat.

My last test gave me 4.3 total which was 3 ldl and 1 for other.
Wanted a print off but nurse wasnt sure how to do it. Seeing gp next friday but specialist on monday morning so I'll get one then but today it was 4.8. Slowly increasing from 3.8 before lchf.

Fat makes me fat.
Carbs make me fat
Protein makes me fat.

The ratio doesn't make any difference, it would indeed be nice to eat a totally unlimited amount of fat with no consequences like some posters seem to be able to.

Going back to @Enclave question, what do you eat as part of your Med diet, am interested.

Kevin I felt ill and faint/dizzy on 20g carb so had to increase to 50-60g.

@ickihun
Still out on Lipids, mine are high, been LCHF for sometime, probably more protein than I should.
Whether they are coming down.. not sure. Going back on statins, probably not.
BG is my Enemy No 1

@ickihun - how frustratiing for you.

Everyone has their own balance and we need to find our own way - I really hope you find yours x

Thank you for letting me know,
I cannot do fasting as I have heart meds to take with food .... I just felt like every bit of energy had drained away when I ate no fats. (I don't guzzle down fats, just eating them as part of a normal meal) I am vegetarian, and don't eat very many eggs when the hens go broody !!!, without fats the wife said my calorie intake was around 100 - 200 for the day ... that means nothing to me as I count carbs

Any body have a nice bread recipe please

I know the NHS doctors want us to have lower cholesterol levels because we are diabetic, but a lot of folk would say that 4.8 is healthier than 3.8. The TC level that has the lowest all cause mortality rate in women is around 5.6 my own is 5.8 and I'm very satisfied with that. It's your trigs figure that really matters anyway and that should be below 1.0 if possible.
