Low G.I doesn't work for me.

Found some whole grain rice noodles in Waitrose and as my prawn curry was a bit light on calories, I thought I'd try them for dinner. Had 1/2 the recommended amount with a prawn and green curry sauce and after an hour my bg was 7.2. Another hour ( 2hours after my meal ) and it was 8.9. Low GI bread as a salad sandwich shot my bg up to 9.6. I have come to the conclusion low GI does not work for me  I shall have to renounce the pasta forever!

Sadly, I too came to the same conclusion about 18 months ago. Perhaps my level of BG reaction to such foods is just too great. It is not a matter of "portion control" either as I have tried the minutest of amounts to the the point that makes the whole exercise of eating them pointless in the first place!.
For me the biggest step to keeping good control while taking no medications whatsoever is to get my mindset in the place where I do not continually think how I can substitue foods I once used to eat, rather concentrate on the ones I can eat without raising my BGLs above 6.0 at ANY time. With the "good for me foods" I set about creating the tasty menus with what I have as I am just not into bland and boring.
My last 4 morning fasting readings have been 4.6. Wondering if my meter might be stuck?!

You could give lentils a go with your curry (daal)....that's what I do and they don't seem to spike my BG at all. White rice does, camargue red rice hardly does at all, and a blend of basmati, red rice and wild rice is pretty tolerable for me.

I guess everybody responds differently, but I have been able to to introduce lentils quite happily to my diet, and specific types of rice as long as I don't eat too much...

:D Am gonna try that this week, fish and curried green lentils. And I'm going to give the basmati rice a go that other people are recommending. Don't want to eat it all the time but it would be nice as a treat!

Low GI doesn't work for me either, partly because I can't take the fibre--it gives me IBS symptoms.

Well I finally got my hands on some Burgen bread. Had a slice with a poached egg, 1 sausage and some mushrooms for breakfast this morning. Bg 2 hours later was 6.9 which is good for me ( diet only ). I'm sooo happy :D . Will keep it as an occasional rather than an every day tho'.
