Hey,
I would like to change my breakfast slightly which currrently comprises:

Fruit and Fibre with a few nuts and raisins
Sprinkling of frosties
A Weetabix or Shredded Wheat

Id like to try a lower GI breakfast but still based around cereal/musili. I've looked at bran muesili and it looks like horsefeed! This was in holland and barrett.

Can anyone suggest what is actually lower GI?!? I've got my little book but its confusing!

Main reasons are to reduce my GI intake and possibly reduce carbs slightly. Didnt realise until I got my book quite how high GI my healthy breakfast was!!!

Dont suggest cornflakes plllleeeease!

hi

i am not posting - go to bbc.co.uk and find some recipes for homemade muesli. Tou can add what u like but I tensd to use toasted oats as a base.

Sugar coated cereals are a def no no !

If you MUST have cereal? try CUt oats, rather than the milled ones. Bran isn't very high in carbs. Follow Ally's sugestion and make your own muesli. Try Googling for a low carb recipe. Also watch which fruits and nuts you put in.

I MUST lol! I dont believe that eating eggs and bacon every day is healthy whatsoever.

I enjoy nuts which are good for you so can mix in some low carb nuts. Never had porridge in all my 37 yrs of breathing so will try that too!

cheers, I'll pop to holland and barretts now!

While you are at H and B you could get some ground almonds too. These can be used in low carb baking and you can make lovely low carb muffins with them. These can be a change from bacon and eggs. Processed meat is probably kept for a few times a week instead of a few times a day. Alternatives are vegetable ommlettes. I like Lidl's smoked trout with scrambled eggs and tomato.

I also like H and B's aloe vera toothpaste.

On some days I have an egg white omelette with mushrooms, tomatoes and red onion (oh ok and a bit of grated cheese ;) )

on rushed days I have my fruit yoghurt, made thusly:

mix half a pot of full fat greek style yoghurt with a full scoop of soy protein isolate powder, ass a few granules of sweetener and about a fluid ounce of cream (jersey cream tastes richer for fewer calories and less exorbitant fat) - this mix will store in the fridge for a few days (making it ideal for days I am in a rush - read: days my son doesn't want to make life easy and we're late for school haha) and to that I add some fresh strawberries about 6 ounces ;) yum ... occasionally I have a small (kid size) banana and this keeps me going for ages - and feeling all virtuous - and it tastes great :) - luckily for me, bananas are something that don't negatively affect my bgs, but that's not the same for everyone I guess. I eat them as green as possible so that might be why!

the soy protein isolate seems expensive when you buy a tub for a tenner, but the amount you use is actually a small proportion of the tub and it really helps your protein for the day :)

give it a try, you never know ;)
