Hi, does anyone know do the doctors remove you from their diabetes list and remove any markers if your HbAc is low for a certain amount of time. My doctor told me I would be removed as my last test (April) was low. I was diagnosed years ago with [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] but had it down to [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] within months. I’ve also been told I would be removed after [emoji6] years and someone else said I would never be removed. She also said I would be able to eat ‘normally’ but I don’t think that’s correct. Thank you

Sorry @j.100.s your post is very difficult to read, I suspect you are using the app to post which unfortunately isn’t active at the moment, some members have found they have difficulty when try to post numbers when using the app. It may be best if you repost through your browser so that members can share their experiences and advice, you can repost your question in this thread

I think different surgeries may work differently

It’s typically considered once diabetic always diabetic but you can go into remission, but you still need to be looked after in case numbers start to rise again

As for eat normally I would disagree with that, it may be ok for some, but you could well stop back into higher numbers again

Bit difficult to read your post with emoji numbers.

I wouldn't get removed off the diabetes list esp once you are Diabetic, it is always will be there, esp your glucose may rise up again. Plus you would need to get other diabetes check up ie foot care, eyes check up etc.

Your diabetes would be well managed if your Hba1c is in normal range.

As for eat "normally" this would deffo kick back to diabetic ranges.

My doctor told me I would be removed as my last test (April) was low. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with 120 but had it down to 40 within 4 months. I’ve also been told I would be removed after 5 years and someone else said I would never be removed. She also said I would be able to eat ‘normally’ but I don’t think that’s correct. Thank you

I don't think there is anything pushing GPs to take someone off the register of T2 diabetics that they are required to hold, actually the reverse. The relevant bit in the Quality and Outcomes Framework says

The contractor establishes and maintains a register of all patients aged 17 or over with diabetes mellitus, which specifies the type of diabetes where a diagnosis has been confirmed.

This register is then used to determine rewards for other things. In particular, for the percentage of people on the register whose HbA1c is lower than target - even if the target figure used is not really low at all.

DM020. The percentage of patients with diabetes, on the register, without moderate or severe frailty in whom the last IFCC-HbA1c is 58 mmol/mol or less in the preceding 12 months - target is 35%-75%

There's 17 points available for meeting this target, which is the biggest single chunk of points for a single diabetes target, by some way. Each point this year (24/25) is worth £220.62. Taking people with "low" HbA1cs off the register would not help practices meet this target, and the backing rationale for the target is all about not overtreating frail elderly.

In short the NICE guidelines and therefore the QOF don't seem to believe that anyone with diabetes can be expected to ever achieve normal blood glucose levels: that 58mmol/mol is "low" enough; and therefore they don't and won't reward practices for anything more than that.

My practice doesn't remove diabetics from their list as we are always diabetic, and as has been said, if we went back to what is a normal healthy diet for non-diabetics, our readings would immediately rise into full diabetes mode, with attendant health risks. The phrase they use for people like me is "well controlled" with which I am perfectly at ease.

Thank you for your replies. This was how I understood it but she has recorded that I no longer have diabetes as I have been outside of pre diabetes range for over 12 months. However, she has also recorded that I have never had any meds which is incorrect as I Took them at the beginning for 4 months.
