firstly yes i'm a worrier. took my readings two hours after a 5.3 before dinner of fish and chips from chippy,.expecting a small rise of around 1.5 but they were 3.5 3.7 and 4.0 on two different meters, what can cause this?

It could well be that the fat from the fish and chips impacted on your digestion.

Provided you feel fine, and your list of meds is up to date (not taking Gliclazide, insulin or the like), then just carry on as normal. Have you tested again a while after your 3.5, 3.7 and 4.0? I would be interested to see what score you got then.

metformin only, surely fat from fish and chips wouldn't cause a drop by that much in levels? will test again in about 40mins , that will be 3.5 hours

In the scheme of things, your pre meal 5.3 may not have been wholly accurate. (You know about meter tolerances, don't you?) If we apply a 15% adjustment, downwards, you would have had a 4.5, which isn't a massive step out from your 4.0.

Again, provided you feel fine, please don't worry about it. It could well be you are nearing the time for a trimming back of your Metformin, but your GP would be able to discuss whether that was appropriate or not..

thanks for taking the time AndBreathe

yes thanks it rose again to 5.5 after 3.5 hours but still doesn't explain a drop after eating fish and chips when there's usually a rise of around 1.5-2.0 at the two hour mark, and yes I've tested same meal many times.
oh well, just one of these thing I suppose.

What was your blood score later yesterday evening @numan43 ?

You seem to have got this thing by the throat these days, so it's likely you will see more of these lower numbers. Personally, I've had them for a long time now, starting

It could well have been you were beginning to fall fast at the point you tested before your meal, and maybe coupled with your meter reading a bit higher, but within tolerances.

Sometimes these things appear to happen for no reason one can fathom. I know it used to bother me a bit, more because I like to understand things than being overly concerned for my health. But, our bodies don't always play by the rules.
