Hello hoping you may help me again .......he has a swollen spleen

Well my dad had to go into hospital as his blood test showed some problems , his had lots of test done eg bone marrow the works It is showing he has a low platelet count would this cause problems for his diabetes ?

Thanks

I don't think so. But is depends on what disease he has that's causing the splenomegaly, etc. The low platelets can be from their getting chewed up in the spleen on the way through. The spleen's like a filter of sorts. You don't need it actually. They get ruptured a lot in car accidents and get taken out. The bone marrow is to look for blood diseases like leukemia and suppressed bone marrow production of blood cells (pancytopenia).

They think he has a disorder and not leukaemia as of yet as his white cells and red cells and platelets are all showing problems but my mum was worried about the platelets and his diabetes as all the doctors seem to forget the fact his a type 1 diabetic .......lucky my dad is a stable diabetic now and his bloods dont jump high then low
Thanks again

"Disorder" is pretty vague. I'd say anyone with a big spleen and low blood counts has a disorder, yep.

Is he by any chance taking a beta blocker because they can cause very low platelet counts I had to stop taking beta blockers for that reason.
