Have type 2 diabetes diagnosed in jan 2013 on metformin 500mg twice a day just started having dizzy spells shaking sweating blurred vision so yesterday i tested when this was happening had a reading of 2.1 should i inform my diabetic nurse Thank You

I would have a word with dn. You had a hypo low sugar count I am type 2 diabetic for over 2 yes. You need to eat the right amount of carbs you need to eat brown bread like burgen bread, brown rice, brown pasta etc.
Potatoes white flour, cereals can be bad for you. Do you have a meter to test sugars test before meals then 2 hours later. Did you eat as that can cause low sugars keep lucazade handy as that gets in system guicker hope this helps

Metformin is not normally this effective so there must be another reason for such a low reading. Yes, talk to your nurse as soon as possible.

Agree with what the others have said, see your GP or DN asap 2.1 is very low. Metformin does not normally give one hypo's so you need to find out what's going on.

If you ring the likes of Abbott Medisense, Bayer, lifescan etc they will normally send you a meter for free and I had mine by return of post.

Were you being particularly active in the time leading up to the low?

Diagnosed type II 1998 2 x 80 mg Gliclazide, 4 x 500mg Metformin and 1 x 100mg Sitagliptin

Diagnosed type II 1998 2 x 80 mg Gliclazide, 4 x 500mg Metformin and 1 x 100mg Sitagliptin

I have been to see my nurse regarding the low blood sugar she has took me of the metformin told me to keep check for a couple of months to see how it goes First thing this morning i had the shakes dizzy etc My reading was 3.1 does this seem right ?

It does not seem right - go and see your GP today if you can

Diagnosed type II 1998 2 x 80 mg Gliclazide, 4 x 500mg Metformin and 1 x 100mg Sitagliptin - HbA1c - 48 mmol/mol

Second what Neil says, at least speak to your GP. I don't know how long metformin stays in the system before its effects wear off, the doctor should be able to tell you this.

One thing to remember if you are driving and as you are getting lows, you need to be above 5.0 to drive,
