A little bit confused,
I was under the impression that if I took BG reading before meal and then 2 hours after meal the reading would go up and hopefully not by more than 2mmol.
I woke and got up about 7.30am and had a couple of coffees and did not take a reading until 1.00pm 6.1mmol before first meal of day .
A large fish(haddock) in batter, was a bit worried about the batter from local fish and chip takeaway.
Waited two hours and retested 5.6mmol .
Was mystified how it had come down I was expecting a substantial rise.
Surly first reading could not be dawn phenomenon after five hours, and not medication as I have not taken Glimepiride for a week as a trial to see if I needed it to keep levels low .
As anyone any ideas why .

Did you eat the batter?
Yes most of it just not the crunchy bit at the end of fish , I thought I would take the risk and see what it would do to my BG level . Also it was just normal batter not gluten free .a bit confused by the drop.
Also with no medication for a week I am delighted to be averaging between 5 and 6 every day

If I got an unexpected reading such as this, first I would test again. I would also test at 3 hours.

Lots of possible explanations, I am afraid:

- meters just aren't that accurate. 6.1 and 5.6 are close enough that the meter give that result if the readings were both at 5.9
- speed at which you ate will affect digestion time
- hunger level before food could have made your bg drop between testing at 6.1 and the blood glucose hitting your bloodstream
- the fat in the meal may have delayed digestion
- or the carbs in the meal may have peaked and be dropping by the time you tested the 5.6
(basically, you don't know if your 5.6 was a rising or a falling figure, and only the speed of your digestion and the carb/fat/protein ratios in the meal will determine that. Fibre is also a factor, but probably not with that particular meal)

Well take it as an unexpected result (aka lucky escape!) and next time try eating just the fish and leave the batter out.
