Lower blood sugar without Metformin?

Hi,

I've been taking my blood sugar regularly and despite being around 5.2-5.8 before meals and 6.8-7.8 two hours after. For the last 3 or 4 days i've noticed that my blood sugar is higher first thing in the morning.

It was 7.8 yesterday first thing, and similar the day before. I understand this is not unusual and have read a bit about the science (hormones etc and the burst of glucose you get to aid you getting up) but what I found weird this morning is, having forgotten to take my Merformin last night, my BS was only 6.2 first thing this morning. Much lower than its been on previous days.

I usually take 500g of metformin with my evening veg. I'm doing the newcastle diet so my food intake, carbs and calories, is very (boring) similar every day. I ate almost exactly the same yesterday as I did they day before. I can't think of any other variables that had changed. Was the lower reading just a fluke? Anyone else found anything similar?

Thanks, Raspin

A one off reading could be anything. I would keep a record of your levels but probably not down to the skipping of the metformin dose.

I'm sure your both right. I'll put it down as a fluke and take my metformin with dinner tonight as usual and start keeping a record of results.
