Macular Degeneration breakthrough involving stem cells

Saw this on the news today about a blind man regaining his sight and sparked hope in me. Macular degeneration affects the back of the eye similarly like the effects of retinopathy, doesn’t it? New stem cell research is proving very positive for all us going through this right now! :)
 
I'm no expert but the way I understand it is that retinopathy affects the blood vessels in the retina, and macular degeneration is to do with the macular which is in the retina. So yes, it would appear that this stem cell treatment offers hope!

Wonder whether the stem cell therapy could work on decreasing the amount of scar tissue on the retina in the future. That’d be awesome!
