Well, I'm back from my holidays so am ready to start trying to control my diabetes instead of it controlling me! 8)

My sugar levels were off the wall at the end of my holiday but I came back determined to give the low carbs a go. I work in a surgery and was talking to the 'diabetic' nurse who was 'dismayed' at my suggestion and insisted I should still eat carbs with every meal. However, since I came back I have tried really hard to reduce my carbs and my sugars have dropped dramatically - down to 6.5 yesterday - which is a vast improvement for me. :D

I'm researching all I can about low carb diets/menus and am determined to give it a go - what have I got to lose? (Except some weight hopefully - LOL)

I'm so glad I found this forum!

Ask your healthcare team if they can show you the Study, which proves that carbs are essential. they wonn't be able to. There is one from 1982, which purports to show that a high carb diet is beneficial. It doesn't show what its conclusion claims and is a rubbish bit of science. It's the only one I've ever heard of.

Yes, but there are plenty of studies to show that LC is much more beneficial for Diabetics AND weight loss. One of them is shown on Graham's thread 'Beware of the Carbs'.

There are too many Diabetics out there who are benefitting from it for it to be ignored for much longer. The proof is in the pudding (the LC one of course)....................

Plockton,

dont forget to add some activity into the equation, its as important in reducing BG as your diet. (Apologies if I am stating the obvious).

Steve.
