Hi Lovinglife thanks for asking after my progress, its been 15 days and counting since I had my last insulin injection and (touch wood) things are going pretty well, I would guess my average bg levels have raised by about 1% to 1.5% and I have had a few higher readings than I was experiencing previously but still only up to mid/high 8's so I'm really pleased. I have decided not to take the offer of the Sitaglyptin and to stick with the Metformin for now.

I am still testing but not as regularly now I am off insulin and I know what most foods do to my numbers, I just hope my doctor will still allow me strips on script :|

I never really minded being on insulin as it became part of my routine but it is nice to be able to do day to day things like arranging to meet friends without feeling I will have to eat at such and such a time so my days are less structured than they have been, but I would say to anyone who is about to start using insulin for the first time, it is not anything to be frightened of and if I had to go back on to it at some time in the future it would hold no fears for me now I have experienced it for a year.

Hi Sid,
Nice to know that things are working out for you now that you are not taking insulin. I am glad your post may allay the fears of others who do not have an alternative to insulin and it is something that we all may have to contemplate in the future.

Take care,
Catherine.

Glad your doing well Sid and those figures sound great your only 2 weeks in so plenty of time for tweaking etc

I know what you mean about structure - my dad is T2 on insulin and even though he has great control it can be a pain fitting around it sometimes - well done and fingers crossed about the strips - my GP has just stopped mine as I have had "far more than my share"! (5 tubs since June)
going to argue my corner though as I am on gliclazide so can and do hypo sometimes. My good control is all down to being able to test and do something with the results and this will be my argument

Again well done but I never doubted you couldn't do it 8)

Good to hear that you had a good experience on insulin Sid!

You could put the case forward to your gp that you don't wish to return to using insulin, and the only way of preventing this is by keeping tight control of your diabetes, and this can only be achieved by testing your blood glucose regulary, hence the need for strips. Worth a try, I would say that insulin and all the consumables that are needed with insulin is more expensive than medication, so in the long term it is a cheaper for the practise. Of course this is dependent on the amount of test strips prescribed.

Good luck!

Nigel
