The Mail on Sunday has just published their special report on sugar in out diet and how people are addicted to it.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/you/article-2182575/YOU-special-report-Are-addicted-sugar.html

Basically, a special report that's pushing the good Doctor J. Briffa's new book "Escape the Diet Trap and the blood sugar solution"

Please be gentle and respectful in your discussion over this topic dear to our hearts...

PS: I was alright on the text of the article, but the sidebar with guff on various "supplements" you can take threw me. Is there any real evidence that Chromium and Cinnamon help control blood sugars?

Just for clarity Dr Briffa's book is Escape The Diet Trap, whilst The Blood Sugar Solution is by Dr Mark Hyman, also referenced in the article. I liked the former, and have just reserved the latter via my library. Dr Hyman loves getting people off medication, and says doctors need to treat the cause and not the effect.

A number of doctors have used chromium supplementation (Drs Atkins, Heller, and others) and several studies have been done on cinnamon. You should find previous discussion on these issues on this forum.

Thanks for the link Paul

just ordered both books from Amazon (cheaper than Daily Mail was selling them for) along with Karen Barnaby's "The Low Carb Gourmet"

Take a look at these for Cinnamon.

Cinnamon is the one supplement that I found did reduce my fasting levels by around 0.5mmol/l on a 1800mg dose per day and others on the forum report similar success. I also tried a range of other herbal ones so Bitter Melon, Gymnema and Banaba and found they were all good at limiting spikes with Gymnema undoubtedly the best and happily the cheapest.

You can likewise find similar positive real studies for Bitter Melon (Karela is it's Indian name) and one supplement company has achieved WHO certification for it capsules. Bitter Melon is a prescribed diabetic medication in the Philippines. Likewise a lot of evidence shows Gymnema is good diabetic supplement. Take a look at this study.
