Unfortunately I am not quite young being 69, but it does look as though I am not producing enough insulin rather than being insulin resistant. You probably do need meds to reduce the blood sugar whilst still being able to eat reasonably so I would discuss this with the GP. It is likely from what you say that your pancreas is not producing enough insulin rather than you being the more normal insulin resistant T2 resulting from being overweight. I'm afraid a low-carb diet, exercise and tablets are probably the only way forward. Do let us know if you are quite young.
