ive had diabetes for 18 years ever since I was a year and a half. Ever since I've been able to take care of it on my own I have struggled to take care if it. I'll be good for a while then just one day I slip off the path I stop giving insulin, stop checking my blood change my site very rarely. I know what I'm doing to my self is terrible and I'm just slowly killing myself, and I don't know why this happens. If anyone can provide me with maybe some tips to staying on the path would greatly appreciated. I can't keep living like this anymore

You're only 19 and have a long life in front of you. You know what you should be doing, so take it a step at a time.

You need insulin so get into a routine. Decide what's the best/easiest time to change your set and do that every 3 days. OK, it's a bit of a bind but it's worth it.

A new set is pretty pointless if you don't bolus but at least you'd be getting the basal.

Why not bolus when you eat? Don't you feel rotten with high blood sugars? I know I'd never be out the toilet! That doesn't lead to a good chat up line!

And what about testing? Yes, that's a bit of a bind as well but without it you won't know if your basals or ratios are correct.

You do know what to do to keep yourself healthy, do you need some help with it? Is your DSN someone you can talk to about this?

For me, routine is the best way to keep on track. I don't really deny myself any type of food, I just bolus appropriately - it's so easy with the pump. I must admit there are times I should test and don't, but not too many of them.

Try to get into a routine and talk to someone. You can always come back here and someone will try to help.

I don't think asking yourself "why" is the way to go. Just ask yourself where and who you WANT to be. Then work it out piece by piece. Instead of looking at your diabetes as a whole, try dealing with each task piece by piece. Changing a set take me less than five minutes, and has great pay-off. So just look for that five-minute slot in the day, and do it. Testing blood sugar is about 20 seconds. Bolusing about the same. Just focus on each tiny task. That way you start to feel better physically and mentally and the whole thing doesn't become such a massive burden. Ironically, once you have it down like that, you can actually forget about it more often and for longer periods than if your diabetes is out of control.

(If you don't change your set regularly, you WILL get high blood sugars becaus the set site heals over and kind of plugs up, and high bloods are always demoralizing AND they cause depression. So I would start all this with a regular set change. And as I said, concentrate on how LITTLE time and trouble it takes.)

Sounds like a burn out every so often and they can be tough. Well done for the control since being little that's amazing and defo to be proud of. Have you ever considered maybe exploring this with a counsellor? I feel it's under estates sometime to how sad d can be at times. All I can further say is my own mind set which is if I don't take it I feel terrible and to feel like that is my nightmare. I am always better than the situation I am in. It maybe cheesie lol but works for me. Knowledge and our minds are power so it might help to look at it closer we are here to talk to too
