Man Bags!

All,

Please take my post seriously and don't take the pi**!

Every day (as you will appreciate) I have lots of stuff to lug about. (Insulin, needles, glucose monitor, strips, dextrose etc). I also carry about some crackers or whatever just in case...

I am a man's man but had no choice but to buy a 'man bag' to carry stuff around in. I don't even use a wallet normally, everything goes straight in my pockets...

I really hate carrying it around for a number of reasons mainly because I don't like them.

Can anyone share any thoughts on what they do?

Thanks..

Hi Joel,

I get my mrs to carry my gear in her handbag, poor lass!

On a serious note, it is a pain deciding how to carry things, especially when this nice weather arrives and you don't wear a coat and you have a pocket shortage. When I'm out for the day on my own, I use a rucksack which I find as easy as anything.

Thought you might say you'll get the mrs to carry it in her hand-bag, I get my kit and hubbys shoved in my hand-bag

On the occasions when I'm not avaiable then he uses a cycle bumbag, but other ideas if you want something slightly smaller, have a look at camera cases, as these can be clip to your belt, and do come in different sizes bound to find one to suit...

I think that you are starting to get to know me too well!! That's why I married her Jo, as a servant to tend to my every needs.....................

Good suggestion about camera cases, never thought of that one, but knowing my luck I'll get walloped over the head from someone trying to steal a camera that doesn't exist!

either a rucksack or a messenger bag but since the wheelchair came about I just use the pocket on the back

T1 huusband carries his supplies with his daily paper in a backpack. Takes it whereever he goes, even to our nephew's wedding at Easter.
My handbag isn't big enough. But Iam looking for a new one. Now what colour will go with my burgundy leather jacket and my pink summer lightweight one?

I think a Messenger bag or a small backpack should be suitable.

I'm female, but never use a handbag (well except when I had to borrow my Mum's to attend Buckingham Palace). I keep my pen, spare needles, insulin etc in a plain pencil case. I keep my blood glucose meter (Optium Exceed), strips & lancets in the original black nylon zipped case. For spare food, I carry tiny zip locked bags (used for jewellery, I think) of jelly babies, individually wrapped muesli bars, rather than crackers which tend to be larger packets and more crumbly. The sweets fit in pockets, but everything else goes in the top pocket of a rucksack, which I tend to carry always outside house, as I cycle most places.

I have a small pencil case that carries everything. The old test strip containers (I use a Bayer contour Meter) are perfect for holding 2-3 needles. I put this in my laptop bag when travelling to work.

When I go out, this either goes in my girlfriends handbag, or I have a messenger bag I can put it in.

When going out at night I generally just take blood meter, pricker, strips in one pocket and some glucose tabs. Try to have all my insulin before I go out, or leave it in the girlfriends handbag.

I had the same problem when I was first diagnosed. I like to have all my kit in one place (i.e. a small bag, so I'm not routing through a rucksack/girlfriends handbag to find what i need. I started using a washbag, but quickly found a pencil case to be a better size.

I also tend to leave supplies and meters at strategic locations: work, bedroom, living room, parents house, car glove box... Pity I can't do that with the insulin as well!

copepod
how do you manage without a handbag?
do you have trousers with decent pockets?
i find women's trouser pockets pathetic, so shallow that if I sit down, everything falls out. I only have a couple of pairs with back pockets, where I keep my mobile phone.
