Hi I'm 69, diagnosed with T2 10 years ago. I take 1500mg Metformin a day. Was lucky enough to be diagnosed at a time when keto and low carb were becoming widely known. Also when freestyle libres were available.
I am finding it more difficult as time goes on though. Recently I added protein powder to my breakfast greek yogurt only to find it spiking my blood sugar. The powder had zero carbs, I checked. But the protein was processed for quick absorption so I wondered if this was the problem. I travel a lot so it would have been useful to be able to use it in conjunction with nuts like pecans and almonds.
I get down at times about the strain of managing it all. My hba1c went up to 50 recently so I'm working on getting it down. It was 62 on diagnosis, kept it at 40 for a few years. I've invested in a treadmill to use for 10 minutes after meals to improve the numbers.
