I sympathize with you.Hi, I was diagnosed with T2 a couple of weeks ago with Hba1c of 98. Bit of a shock because it was the best I'd been feeling for years. I started a low carb diet straight away and it made me feel tired. My BG readings went down from about 15 to between 5-9. I've also started metformin and the tiredness has got worse. In addition, my anxiety has been playing up, which has made it hard to get to sleep some nights. I work 13 hour shifts in a physical job. Yesterday I was really struggling and it was affecting my work and my boss noticed. Fortunately I have a great team who helped me out, but it's not fair to them if I can't give 100%. Normally after working 2 full days in a row I'm knackered, but yesterday I was so exhausted I almost felt drunk. Even last week after working just 8 hours I came home and went straight to bed at 5pm, forgot to eat and slept for about 15 hours.
Is this normal? Is there something I can do to make myself less tired? Do I need to talk to my boss about reducing my hours? The rota is already finalised for the next 6 weeks. I also don't want to tell people about my diabetes. I haven't told anyone, except on this forum. Seeing my diabetes nurse this afternoon. Thanks.
Avocados are high in healthy fat.I'm vegetarian and lots of veggie products are low in fat.
Do make sure you are eating plenty of calories from protein and fat. As others have said, it is usual to feel temporarily less well after lowering one's carb intake and bg. But on top of that, I went on feeling weak for ages until I realised that I just wasn't eating enough calories, now I wasn't eating fruit, in particular. Is there something I can do to make myself less tired?
