Good day everyone
I have just started on metformin tablets for diabetes type 2 , I was wondering how.long you have to bebon the medication I was told for life ?
Can I go back to my diat control only if I work hard to come off the tablets ? .
Any advice would be helpful.

The NHS has a very gloomy attitude in general, that T2D can only get worse. This is not automatically true but you are likely to encounter this doom-and-gloom mentality a lot unless you are lucky enough to meet a more enlightened health professional.

Many, many people here on the forum (not me, at least not yet, but I'm trying), have managed to achieve remission (normal HbA1c results without medication) by adjusting their diet, and often increasing exercise.

For some, this doesn't work enough to completely give up medication, which does not mean failure, just that their body needs a bit more help.

Great that you are taking responsibility for your health and I wish you luck on your journey.

There’s loads of good advice here already, but if you have a specific question, ask away!

I've never been on any diabetic medication and have only ever been diet controlled. If you can reduce your blood glucose by diet change, you won't need the metformin any longer.

What Metformin does is reduce the ability of your liver to make and add glucose to your system - this is perfectly natural, by the way. Metformin has no impact at all on the carb/glucose in what you eat.
