Can you please help. How can you tell when you come over very hot and sweaty if its down to food you have eaten or the menopause ,which I thought I was over. . I have just been diagnosed type 2 controlled by diet and not given a lot of information. I am in my 60s and getting very confused by this all . I think I am eating what I am supposed to ie low carbs , no cake ,biscuites etc but if I eat something not listed which I think will be ok I soon feel very hot, feel shaky not ill but do not feel right ,this lasts for a while then I feel ok  . I will be grateful for any advice

Hi Louloule

I'm no expert on this but I know it's possible to get the occasional hot flush even after the menopause. I was lucky to get through the change without them, but I've had them occasionally both before and after, usually when I've eaten too much!

We still have hormones and we still have cycles, even when we're no longer fertile. Fat people like me produce a form of oestrogen from the fat tissue, which is probably to blame for my present polyp problems. No idea how that affects hot flushes though!

Do you have a meter to test your blood glucose? I think it would be worth checking your blood glucose levels when you have these feelings, to see if you're high or low. If high - avoid the new food.

If you give us a few more details someone may be able to help more.

My mum is a diabetic and when she eats certain sweets her face gets very hot and sweaty. Mine gets hot when I eat cheese.

Had my last period when I was 50 and used to have quite awful hot flushes for several years. However, now at the age of 77 I still get the occasional sweat and particularly if I eat a bit of sweet stuff. Having an under active thyroid is also a trigger for the odd sweat too.
As I always say..Ooh the joys of getting old!... :lolno:
