You have mild neutropaenia - lower levels of the white blood cells called neutrophils. It may be temporary or may be just the way you are made. It's worth comparing to previous results and monitoring in future blood tests.

Andydragon - Has your GP seen your bloods yet? Often is something is a bit out of whack, particularly unexpectedly, they will choose to repeat the test either immediately, or after a short while, say a month.

Were your vitamins and minerals tested in this blood draw?

Yes they've seen them and said it all should be repeated in a few months. These were done in May, I’d meant to ask on here before but forgot and the post about WBC in another thread reminded me. There wasn’t any real concern shown but I noted they are lower than normal and wasn’t sure what that could mean

No vitamin or mineral test, looks like B12 and folate is about a year ago when last done

It'd be good to be on the case on that one. It would not be unreasonable to ensure B12, Ferritin and Folate are scooped up next time.

I find tracking a trend line on Excel (if your online system doesn't do it) to be useful, to understand the direction of travel.)

It could all be nothing or something, but you need to understand it a bit better than you do now.

I can't help with a breakdown on your result, but you may need to get onto your GP and get another test one.

Just before Easter this year I had my quarterly blood tests at the pathology lab at the private hospital near me. My blood count was out of wack, while count was down , iron was down on the December test.

Had another test done, plus a faeces test done over three days of Easter, the results came back that I had some internal bleeding.

My GP refereed me to the base hospital for a colonoscopy, which was done within two weeks, prelimary results showed a 50mm polyp near my colon that was bleeding. It was biopsied and the result came back that I have bowel cancer.

So check the toilet paper after you wipe, and check for blood smears, as I wish that I checked more regularly when I used the toilet.

OK, your neutrophil count was normal in your previous results so this is a new finding. It also appears that your haemoglobin, haematocrit and platelets are trending downwards although they are still normal at present If the trend continues, it would need investigation. It could be due to something as simple as a vitamin deficiency so might be worth taking iron, B12 and folate until you have your repeat blood test.

Thanks for that. Okay, this whole improvement of life thing leads to other things which is just my luck but likely nothing and not going to be something to worry about unless it is

having this data online or accessible is something we all need to have, very easy for our doctors to say it’s all okay and not tell us there is something to keep an eye on. I’m lucky in that my surgery seems really good and keeps an eye on these things, but it could easily have been a once a year test. So there’s some linings to those clouds!

but as I think we all find with diabetes, we have to take our own health matters into our own hands.

Hi @Andydragon in one of my other posts, i mentioned and several members reconfirmed that if you are on low-carb diet, your body inflammation goes down hence the reason WBC are on the lower side and few members posted their readings. Mine went down too only after i started low card few months back, makes perfect sense, but just a logical explanation, I don't have data to back it up. However, if i look at my WBC, they were highest when i was at the height of my metabolic disorder.

Your RBC count is low, so is mine because our MCV is high. I have this because i have genetic blood disorder called G6PD enzyme deficiency. What this means for me is that my RBC lifespan is shorter than usual 120 days so my a1c result might be a skewed a little lesser than it should be, a deviation of about 6-8 points. So if my a1c is 26 (which is on my last result), i would take it as somewhere between 30-34. I did this calculations using some random formulas of different research papers. I am not sure if that could of any interest to you as I can see your MCV is close to 90. I see others normally are in early 80's.
