Being type 1, my health and what really grates me are false people who make themselves out to be something when their not
Body of a seventy year old, actually 50 years old, think like a teenager.
Ive been type 1 for 40 years this November, on a pump 14 yrs this Dec..
twenty six years of really bad control and i mean bad, Tried as hard as i could to control it but it just didn'tt work since being diagnosed at 12 after coming off steroids for kidney failure for 12 years what an extra gift that was. Then was involved in a hit and run accident and couldn't walk properly for a couple of yrs and still have serious problems now. loads of laser treatment to both eyes and lots of diabetes related complications etc, then in in 1999 i was put on a pump and took to it like a duck to water and ever since the HbA1c levels have been between 5.5 and highest at 6.5 but the damage had already set in, had to give up driving 18 months ago and am now also registered as partially sighted. Ive had a lot of problems but i'm positive there are people less fortunate than me everywhere and i have a sick sense of humour which helps. Ive put on a fair bit of weight because of probably what i eat and because i am restricted to how much exercise i can do but i started a low carb diet after christmas and so far ive lost over a stone, im so pleased and its only from what ive read on this forum as its never been mentioned to me at my diabetes center or anything like that. Ive avoided reading or reserching anything like that since my levels have been fine for years so this has helped me no end

I dont think ive quite grasped using this site yet but give me a chance anyway

Hi Dave, Welcome...there's quite a few sick, childish. good humoured people around here. With your mind set, you might want to start with the flatulence / farting discussion to cheer yourself up. i'm sorry to come across people like yourself who have drawn short straws in life.

Thanks Joe, a quick question. I can see all that I typed on my computer and obviously others can too but there's only a few lines when I look on my phone perhaps it's something I've done but other peoples posts come up with a large amount of txt (sorry it's not diabetes related)

Mmn ... I'm replying using iPhone app. Seems like no issue. Fairly large amount of space and scrollable . Are you using an android version? If so I can't help.

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum, I am sorry you've had a difficult time with your diabetes but congratulations on your recent weight loss. Best of luck with low carbing

oh my...! Dave, you really have had a run of bad stuff happening... glad you can stay cheerful. It certainly helps people like me, to have people like you around, so welcome aboard. I panic just at the thought of having sight problems! My mom can hardly see at all. I thought she'd been controlling her diabetes really well for almost 30 years but maybe not...!
I'm just trying to stave of the onset!
I panic something rotten.
Nice to meet you.

Thanks for the kind words Diamondash, the sight was always my biggest fear, the worst part was giving up driving after 30 years I now reliant on ether lift, cabs but have not tried public transport as there's a long walk from my house and it has been about 25 yrs since I've ever used it. Plus also I'm limited on the distance I'm able to walk comfortably. I have found out there's travel schemes for disabled people but I would class myself as restricted at the moment.
