Measuring carb effects

[quote="AMBrennan"
Ideally, you should repeat this for every food that exists, and compile the results into your personal glycemic index.[/quote]

Yeah......... Probably won't manage that haha going to keep an eye on certain snacks and note them down so I at least know what I can and can't have!

If you're after snacks that don't raise your BGs, then here's a list of what I have: nuts (some have a lot of carbs in though, I go for peanuts or Morrison's mixed nuts, 50g), peperami, pork scratchings (too noisy for the office though!), cheese, celery, coleslaw, 85% dark chocolate.

For me 10g of carbs will raise my BGs by 2-3 mmol/l. So if I need something to raise my BGs I'll have >=10g carbs, otherwise I aim for <10g carbs. A good way to find this out is to get hold of some dextro tablets, which contain 3g dextrose (very similar sugar to glucose) per tablet. Have 3 of them, test before about 30 mins - 1 hour after (they're very fast acting) and see what the difference is in BGs.

Edit: Just realized I've attempted to answer your original question after about 10 other posts! Oops, sorry!

Doesn't matter when, got there in the end haha will try with the dextro this afternoon and see what happens!

Ok so in half an hour it had gone up by 2.8, and in an hour it had gone up by 3.4 in total.

Moral of the story? Don't eat anything with carbs in it without the Novorapid. Ever!

That 2/3 mmol/l prediction was right then! You can get them in different flavours: blackcurrant, tropical, orange, lemon and original. I'm not a fan of the orange, the original and lemon are my favourites!

We got there in the end!!

They were the orange ones. Certainly an incentive to steer clear of the hypos if that's what ill end up eating!
