Hi does Diabetes UK still award medals for persons having the condition for 25yrs & 50yrs, when I saw my Diabetes specialist yesterday she asked if I had ever received a medal, I wasn't aware of any such award - just curious now.

How long have you had diabetes Scottie?

I have had diabetes 53years, it was when I saw my diabetic consultant on Monday she mentioned it by asking me if I had received a medal for 50years, going to the GP to ask for written evidence they will request a fee of £60 - £70, to write a letter.

Ask your consultant or DSN for a letter, chances are they will do it for nothing. Does your GP wear a mask when they asks for £60 - £70 for a letter?

btw, well done for getting to 53 years, I bet you've seen a few changes in that time.

£60-£70 to write you a letter ? They should be ashamed of themselves ! Good luck with your well deserved medal !

The number 53 is amazing, well done:cool: but the numbers 60 or 70 (£'s) is shocking:eek:

I don't blame you. I'm only 32 years down the road so got a long way to catch-up with you Scottie ;)

We do have members on the forum who have been diagnosed for 50 years and are doing remarkably well, always gives me hope when I see people like yourself posting, so do stick around mate.
