Medical Exemption Certificate

Hi.

I was diagnosed Type 2 (tablet controlled) in January 2014. At the time, my GP gave me the necessary form to get my MEC, which I signed and filled out and they duly posted it to the NHSBSA. I did not receive a certificate. Since then, I have filled out another 7 or so forms and the GP surgery has duly posted it and I still have not received a certificate.

So far, this has not been an issue as my GP surgery also dispenses. Other places I have been have taken my word for it that I am entitled to use a MEC and, to date, I have not received any fines from the NHSBSA. So, I'm guessing that somewhere, somehow the message has got through to the Powers That Be that I'm allowed to use a MEC.

My fear is that at some point, I'll either be told to pay for my medications (which will come to over £50 per month) or I'll get a fine from the NHSBSA. I have searched the NHSBSA website and located a Query Form which won't submit for me, but no other way of contacting them to find out what is happening. My GP just keeps submitting more and more forms.

Regards
Judi

Definitely get in touch with them, I hadn't realised mine had expired as I never actually show it in my local pharmacy they know me but I got sent a fine, it was soon sorted when I phoned and explained but they seem to be more alert these days with doing checks

When you are next in the pharmacy or gp ask for the medical exception certificate form and fill in your part and hand it in to your gp so that he can send your form off for you to get a mec which you will get in the post within a week or so and that way your covered and you won't get court out but that is the only way that I do it every 5 years as that is how long they last and when they try to catch you out you have a certificate as when I was on tablets I still had one but now I am back on insulin and will be for the rest of my life now so I have been told
