Medical opinion

I agree with all the above re trying low carb and reducing/stopping glicazide whilst doing so.

But where I’m confused is where so many people say to “ask” your dr. It’s your body, your choice. Yes listen carefully to dr and their explanations. But do your own research and be informed.

Then “tell” your dr what you’d like to do and why and ask for their support and monitoring to ensure you are safe. This might be monitoring after 3 months to make sure you are not too low and checking if you still require the glic or it may mean stopping the glic and checking the low carb diet makes a good improvement. Your choice.

I told nurse and Doctor I would be low carbing, however I also told them what my diet used to be high carbs and high sugar.
My guess is they thought I would carry on this way and therefore need Glicazide...
I think when your first diagnosed as diabetic and told you may lose your sight or a limb you put your trust in what a medical professional advises, until to learn otherwise.
I need to take my fasting glucose level which will give an indication of glic is really necessary

I’m sure they get told “I’ll change” a lot by patients and end up justifiably sceptical. That said when a patient actively demonstrates they are following through with their promise they should jump on that enthusiastically and do all they can to facilitate those changes.

102mmol/l to 36mmol/l in 4 months.
Same initial meds as yourself - dropped the Gliclazide as soon as levels good (around 2 or 3 weeks in)

Stepped down the Met gradually (2000mg/day prescribed, 500mg/day now).
Recent HBA1c 39.

Testing regularly (before meals & 2 hours after) absolutely invaluable to learn what works for you.
Have not tested since New Year - confident I now know what my system can tolerate after 15 months learning.

Best of luck!
