diagnosed Sept this year but only had two brief sessions with the nurse. My levels are in 7s and occasionally 8s. Can anyone please tell me when anyone is put on medication with diabetes. Sorry if this sounds asilly question just don't understand it all yet

No. I was basically diagnose as diabetic wit two readings 7.1 and 7.7. Saw the nurse. Saw the nurse again about 4 weeks later, couldn't understans why as she really didn't tell me anything. Bought myself a monitor + test strips, learnt so much from this but would really like to know WHEN PEOPLE ARE PUT ON TO MEDICATION RATHER THN DIET CONTROL. Type 2 by the way. Could not be without this forum
Amazing

If you can manage to reduce your blood sugar levels with diet then you may not need medication for a while. It really is too bad that this has not been discussed with you. Please make an appointment and ask for all the information ,after all it's your diabetes and you need the information to gain control properly.

I'm not sure of the exact figure but if your daily blood sugar readings will not come down and stay high then you would probably be put on oral medication to bring down your blood sugar levels to a safe number ie. below 7.

IME this entirely depends on the rules in the area where you live.

Some authorities will use medication much earlier and attempt to keep your A1c below 6.5, or even lower if you can achieve it.

Others still will not consider medication, or increasing medication, until your A1c has been over 8 for three months or more.

Before my first A1C I was told by my GP that the result should be below 6.5, otherwise metformin would be prescribed.

If you are in the 7s, a reduced carb approach might do the trick. Get a Collins guide, find out where those carbs are and reduce them. This cannot hurt you in any way, but does require motivation.Any medication has potential side effects, so if you can do it without, so much he better.
You need to be in the 5s to avoid risks. It is also thought that keeping VERY tight to Non-diabetic levels, can prevent the condition from progressing.
