At what blood sugar levels would a diet controlled type 2 need to start taking oral medication?

You'd need to discuss this with your doc but personally, if I was regularly hitting 10 or above, I'd consider meds.

I'd say it possibly depends on which diet you are using for control, there are several and maybe a different one may work better than the one you are currently using. If you have exhausted the possibilities and are still higher than about 9 >2 hours postprandial then meds may be your only option.

It should really be based on your HBa1C result. The NICE Diabetes Pathway doc (Google it on the web) shows at what levels action is taken. If I remember it's around 6.5% that tablets are recommended to start?

Thanks for the replies, I will discuss this with my doctor. I just felt I would like to hear what people in the know thought. My sugars at the moment are usually 7 or under and I think this is ok. I have started doing a bit more exercise and am monitoring my diet and testing to see how my meals affect my sugar levels, so think I am doing fine just now. There is so much info to wade through that it does get a bit confusing sometimes.
