Hi
I currently take daily
Metformin 3x850mg, gliclazide 4x80mg, vildagliptin 1x50mg, pioglitazone 1x45mg, dapagliflozin (forxiga) 1x10mg.
With the above and sensible diet and exercise I just about keep my blood sugars under control. However I'm not a great lover of taking too many pills and wondered if taking the pills is better than going onto insulin? Would appreciate any comments from anyone who has been in a similar situation.
Thanks
Brian

Hi Bre , did your doctor tell you why you need such a verity of medications? Is there any specific reason behind it? I take just two types Janumet 1000/50 and Diamicron 30 . For me , Insulin will be the last resort .

Just says tighter control would be better and adds another pill. Just a bit concerned about the accumulative side effects of all these meds.

@bre5

Is your "sensible" diet high in carbs and low in fat as advised by your doctor/diabetic nurse/nutritionist?

Perhaps if you give us an example of a typical day's diet we may be able to suggest improvements.

Diet is low carb and average fat
Unfortunately, that already is a sensible diet. I was hoping that you would be able to reduce medication by reducing your carb intake.

Have you discussed the possibility of going on insulin instead of the cocktail of medication you are currently on with your doctor.

I must admit I also think of insulin as the last resort but I can appreciate why you are raising the question in your case.

Unfortunately, I do not really have an answer for you.

All the best

Pavlos
