Medicheks offer on at the moment

Oh, and thanks for all the kind wishes on our anniversary.
42 years now.:)
For some strange reason we were able to easily get the wedding venue, and a cheap package holiday for the honeymoon. Nothing to do with the 13th December date, obviously.

Update: got my results.

Summary from the Doctor "Your insulin is in the lower end of the normal range whilst your glucose is elevated. You have an increased fasting insulin resistance index.".

There is a fuller report which I will read and digest.

Next step?
I assume it is to try and decrease IR whilst I am still kicking out insulin.
At least I know that I am not running massively high insulin levels.
On the other hand that may mean that my pancreas is faltering a bit.

Will this be the motivation to take another half stone off in the New Year?

"FASTING BLOOD GLUCOSE * .......................7.94 mmol/L ....................3.50 - 5.80
INSULIN ............................................................7.17 mIU/L .......................2.6 - 24.9 F
INSULIN RESISTANCE INDEX * .......................2.28 ...................................0.00 - 1.00"

Interesting that my fasting BG is significantly higher than I have been testing recently.
Normally under 6.
Also interesting that there is such a wide range of "normal" for insulin production, although I would expect to be lower than average because of LCHF.

The main message is that I do have a higher than normal Insulin Resistance so this is something I can attempt to address.

The next big question is "How?".

I also have to ponder the value of this test, and if it should be repeated, and if so how often.

It might be informative if I repeated it mid summer at the peak of my physical activity to see if that significantly reduces IR.

I also think that perhaps I should have a concerted push in January to get my weight below 11 stone 7 lbs and my waist measurement below 34".

I am certainly not fat free as I still have subcutaneous fat around my belly.

I believe the "normal" range for fasting insulin is based on the entire population. There will be many thousands of people currently non-diabetic with high circulating insulin and a degree of insulin resistance due to diet. It is thought that these factors come years before any diabetes diagnosis..

Your insulin level was very good and in the ideal range of under 8. It is a shame your glucose level let you down (liver dump at an inconvenient time?)

Thanks for the reassurance.

I suspect it may have been a liver dump due to slightly longer fasting than usual.

It does look as though IR is the thing to tackle.
