anyone have any suggestions on how i can lose weight?

Hi,

To lose weight it's a matter of eating less calories than you need. Less carbs = less calories. Less carbs will also reduce your blood sugar levels. Try to avoid potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, pastry and batter. If not able to avoid them totally, then seriously reduce portions. This, plus cutting out the obvious foods like chocolate and sugary drinks etc. plus a little increased exercise (a 20 minute walk will do) is the only way to do it I'm afraid. Good luck!

Morrisons supermarket do a parboiled (converted) brown rice). As a brown rice it is low carb, it is about 18g for a 100g portion of rice but because it is also a converted rice, it is about 1/3rd of the calories of other rices. 100g of this rice is about 102 cals.

An 80 g portion of rice is normal so that is just over 80cals and roughly 15g carbs. I like this with a prawn or chicken sauce, made from scratch, say with onion, celery and a tin of chopped tomatoes. They are nutritious meals, slimming, filling and easy on the blood sugars.

Other good meals can be made with pearl barley, which you can almost use like rice. It's even less calories and even better on the blood sugar levels. One of the first meals I made after diagnosis was this lamb and barley stew:

Just avoid the crusty white rolls with lashings of butter :)
