I'm new to a pump (2 weeks). I was originally given quicksets but they kept on kinking and I was getting non-delivery alarms !! They switched me to silouhettes still with a Teflon cannula and all has been fine since. I would say im a 'slim' build!! Seriously I think your weight/build influences the one your DSN will advise for you. All the best

Hi all
I was fitted up with the Accu check spirit combo on Friday and I am using the DLINk cannular, this has a metal needle 8mm. I had a set of supplies delivered yesterday and I now have both 8 & 10 mm needles.
These are quiet nice to fit and wear, the tubing from the insulin resovior does not seem to kink.
I asked the rep about kinking as I had read about on this web site, she insisted that their tubing does not kink/cause any insulin stoppages.
I am of big build (you see my pics of me at PH) and had a 8mm cannular fitted, so when I placed my oder I asked for the 10mm. I know my pump is different from yours but I thought I would mention the infusion set.
All the best to you all

I moved to the sure T steel cannular last night and it is so much better for me than the silhoettes. I'm very slim and athletic and the silhoettes seemed really invasive.

I've had 3 changes since I started on the pump a week ago and both shilloettes caused discomfort and stinging no matter which way in I put them around my stomach. Yesterday was the final straw when I could feel my bolus going in, and I had to revert to doing 0.5 units at a time to ease the discomfort. Nurse checked and said it was in properly but clearly wasnt for me.

The steel one I inserted into my thigh, after 12 hours is vastly improved. I can't even feel it, fingers crossed it stays this way. Fasting BG 5.6 this morning!

Again to reitterate, I'd check the cannula options until something works for you. Although I've only been on my pump a week and a day, I've been carb counting for a year and the pump vastly helps this. My levels are controlled at a much tighter level than before and I'm looking forward to (is that possible with diabetes?!) being able to be even mroe flexible with my life than I was before.

Bring on skiing this January with a pump!!

I started on the quickset but kept getting"no delivery" so moved onto the silhouettes. I'm not "slim" (but loosing weight atm :D ) so it suprised my DSN. I did have issues with the silhouettes in my tummy with causing pain however I have now changed where I insert them (side) and have had few problems, with the sets themselves anyway :)

I am waiting to change my pump to a Veo and I am slightly worried about the infusion sets. I currently use Accu Chek Tenderlink & have never had a problem with kinking, occlusion alarms or anything else, but can't continue using them with the Veo as they use a different connector (Veo isn't luer lock).

I have always manually inserted my sets & like it that way. the idea of "firing" it in scares the hell out of me!!

I have done as much research as I can on Medtronic & must say that I don't find their website very good. Can anyone point me to where I can really see what is available?

From experience I know that my DSNs won't set out the options, they'll just expect me to use their favourite/cheapest/usual sets & I will only find out that there's other options when I ask exactly the right question. (The fact that the doctor promised me a new pump in August and said that she expected it to be fitted in late September and I'm still waiting and only hear from the DSNs when I ring for updates (to be told that there isn't one) perhaps explains my opinion of the DSNs at my hospital!)

So there's a Silhouette set, a Mio set & a Quickset? Is that the choice for the Medtronic Veo? I really need to make sure that I have all the relevant info when I do finally get the new pump.

LeeBee - I ski every year & on the pump it's so much easier than MDI - just set a temp basal at breakfast time so that you're getting slightly less insulin than normal all day & hit those slopes without worrying about hypos. Plus, you can easily bolus for tea & cake when you come off the slopes in the afternoon, the odd hot chocolate & desserts with dinner without having to have 4 extra injections a day!! (Though I am terrible on skiing holidays, I go a bit mad & eat & drink loads; probably not very good for me, but it's only one week a year  )

Hi Cheryl,

I'm off to Cairgorms late next week, praying for the snow to continue so i can test out the pump before skiing in 3 valleys in Jan.

Thanks for the advice going to drop my day rate to 75% of what it usually is, see how I get on!

The sure T sets are working like a dream, mannual insert only and don't even know they are there, unlike the silhoettes!
