Type of diabetes
Type 2
Treatment type
Non-insulin injectable medication (incretin mimetics)
1998: Diagnosed T2D
2000: started metformin, with other meds at various points.
2013: all meds stopped thanks to major weight loss. One HbA1C in normal range. But next one back in diabetic range. Meds eventually resumed.

2024: HbA1C 71 on metformin plus Trulicity
2025: HbA1C 49 on no meds
2026: HbA1C 47 on no meds

So I meet the criteria for T2D remission. Seeing practice nurse next week. I’m wondering whether there is any point in being recorded as t2D in remission…. does it change anything about the tests they would do? Or is it just something to make me feel good?

You should still have the tests, as remission is not cure. But allow yourself to feel good, as you deserve the credit for turning your readings around. Feeling good about someting you have achieved is major medication, with no side effects!

Whatever definition of remission is used (there are many) makes no difference at all. As far as the NHS is concerned, once diagnosed T2, we will always be diabetic, even if blood glucose is normal (ie under 42mmol/mol).
