Today finally went to hospital appt for check up after kidney stone last August.
After a 30 minute wait despite being first one I was in and out in 5 mins

Looked at 6 month old scans to say oh there was a stone (no sxxxt Sherlock) proceeded to tell me to avoid salt saturated fats red meat dehydration etc etc excess protein
When I asked how I could do that with low carb he said easy just don’t eat lots of it.

Apparently one bout of dehydration is enough for a new stone to form.

Then gave me a leaflet on stones.

Oh and I have to go back to get a scan to make sure it’s passed.

1) nothing like scaring the **** out of someone
2) nice giving helpful info 6 months after the fact
3) they already cancelled this appointment twice losing me money as I’m self employed

I know I’m lucky it could be worse but as of now I feel so fed up it’s ridiculous.
Why do you never feel reassured when you go to these places and why get me there knowing the problem and not give me a scan there and then!!

Really just moaning. Sorry.

Like everything else we get from the HCP's you might want to do a fair bit of research on what causes kidney stones before following the guidance you have been given...

I would suggest "Meh" is a bit of an understatement....

I had kidney stones. I just concentrate on not getting dehydrated. Each consultant gave me a different bit of dietary advice, always conflicting and saying the opposite to each other. It sounds like you got the traditional "healthy eating" advice given to every patient, regardless of their illness or condition.

If your kidneys are otherwise healthy, protein should not harm them. If in any doubt, check with your GP if you feel unwell. All the best. Its a minefield of old fashioned info out there in the medical world.
