I am, I think, going through the menopause. Hot flushes day and night and missed periods. I am 50. My hormone level blood test from the Doctors is normal, but she said it doesnt always show up.

So I wonder if anyone knows if the menopause affects bs levels, like puberty does?

Yes it does :(
Good article here:

Although it's quite probably not the reason in your case it's worth bearing in mind that diabetes can cause periods to stop because the body can't access enough energy ie not enough getting into the cells. I thought I had gone through the menopause when I was diagnosed with T1. They checked and I was in fact still perimenopausal As soon as my levels were normalised my periods came back for another 2 years. In my case I had lost a great deal of weight because of the high glucose levels.
According to wiki:
" amenorrhoea has been shown to be directly attributable to a low energy availability. Many women who diet or who exercise at a high level do not take in enough calories to expend on their exercise as well as to maintain their normal menstrual cycles"

Any hormonal changes are likely to affect other hormones
I'm 65 and post menopause. It's easier not having to cope with the mood swings of the cycle. I used to have dreadful carb cravings, which have now been long gone.

Hi Lucy,

I think I may be approaching the same thing. I have been having extreme hormonal fluctuations the last few months and by BGs have been affected in that I have been havinbg trouble keeping my BGs up at certain times. I am now ajdusting my insulin in relation to this and have yet to see my GP. I am only going on what has been happening. Have had slightly different symptoms and know that it may not be the menopause. I dont know If you saw my thread the other day. So IMHO I believe that that the hormone fluctuations do have quite an impact on BGs.

I am also starting to feel quite low. I am really missing my Mum and Nana right now. I have lost them both Mum when I was 7 (35yrs ago) and Nana just over 7 yrs ago. I dont know if its the hormones or that I just could really do with them right now. Feeling a little teary today.

Lucy. :(
