Hi

My name is Joe Lurie and I work on a programme called Embarrassing Teenage Bodies. The idea of the programme is to remove stigmas which are attached to certain illnesses - e.g. diabetes, acne, psoriasis...

The reason I am writing on this forum is that we have a teenage boy who has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and is struggling to cope with it. He is a keen rugby player but is finding it difficult to play as a result of his diabetes. As part of the show we would really likle to find a mentor, preferably a teenager, who is coping well with their condition and would be willing to help advise our teen.

If you are interested or know someone who might be able to assist us please get in touch.

I'm a grandmother, so can't help directly, but if you can't find anyone this way, have you tried the letters page of "Balance" the magazine of Diabetes UK. I'm certain there are plenty of kids with diabetes, who still play sport. Just think of Gary Mabbut and Sir Steve Redgrave

My son is doing great with his type one diabetes but is completely unsporty. He is into computer games, x box live and warhammer. The worst thing that could happen to him is a thumb injury.
