Well I am no expert but I would have 2 eggs and maybe some bacon for breakfast and if you are doing low fat and don't eat ordinary bacon try turkey bacon instead and add some mushrooms cooked in a little olive oil. I think you could have more in the way of green veggies like broccolli, kale, spinach. spring cabbage etc and perhaps have cauliflower and celariac mash instead of the carrott and swede which can raise BG the only green stuff you had that day was lettuce in the salad and some cabbage

Thank you will do I love broccoli so yes and I'm lucky enough to love veg in genral

I went for a low calorie, portion control diet for initial weight loss, then a mediterranean diet and keeping to low GI/GL, and cholesterol helping foods.
Breakfast, swop the bread for livlife, one egg and ham is good, poached is good, fried is bad.
I tend to eat little and often, so maybe I'd eat the tomatoes at about 11, and a bigger salad at lunch. As AnnieC says, a lot more veg.
I don't think what you have said is any way enough for a day.

I did a 800 to 1200 calorie diet over summer, lost 4 stones, but it was always structured around breakfast - snack - lunch - snack - dinner.
Snacks were low fat yoghurt, (now trying Alpro), a piece of fruit, a handful of tomatoes, small salad, that type of thing.

I avoided any fats, ate carbs that didn't affect my bs, (including the fruit),

It's even gone reasonably well over Xmas.

(Oh, and I read on the other thread you make an OXO drink, I was advised not to, very high in salt)

Thank you I will take all advice to get as well as I can x

What's your aim?

I would have guessed you're going for weight loss at the moment, from the very restricted diet you are on, but then you need to think about what you want to eat for the future.

It needs to be something you can stick to, so if you want to post up a bit more info, we can do our best.

All diet have benefits, all have downsides.

It takes a long time to find out what's right for you, it probably took me two years to sort myself out, trying a few different options on the way.

Aim is to loose more weight and to get bs down I am on 500mg on metformin and I don't really know what I'm doing carb wise yet .sorry what I mean is I'm finding my way.

Losing weight will help get your bs down as well.

It's a complete minefield being diagnosed. It does take a while to get your head around it.
I found cutting out bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, all the things that gave me high spikes was a good start. Low GI/GL food was a good step for me as well. As well as the obvious ones like cake and chocolate biscuits.
Then a reasonable, balanced diet, although heavy on veg, little or no starchy ones though.
Fresh food, and little processed, so I tend to avoid bacon, sausage, salami etc.
Lean steak, chicken, fish, and I avoid fatty ones like lamb and pork.
Jars of sauces can be high in sugar, I make my own normally.

A bs meter is a good investment, at least then you'll know which foods cause you to have high bs, we're all different here.

Thank you it really is hard

You have promped me to clear my cupboards . One of my older sons would like to thank you as he's the lucky lad who has all the shopping I don't want..says he won't need to shop for years. But really thank you all. My nurse said bread pasta and rice brill..ha ha

An excellent start.

To be fair to dieticians, they always recommend a classic healthy diet to everyone.
It is the better option to everyone, as it's a relatively easy diet, it does offer improvements to white bread and chocolate and donuts that I came from.

When you get "technical", you can fine tune that diet.
Or move onto an "extreme" diet.
And I include all non mainstream in that, 5:2, fasting day, if you look on here the list is endless.

I have a brilliant nhs dietician that prompted me to change my diet working with me to the one I'm on now. It's a change for life, so I have to be able to live with it. If you feel things creep back in, balance how much you miss them, to how much you feel they shouldn't be there.
Excess is always going to be bad, but being miserable for life isn't going to be any better.
But don't let them all creep back, you'll always have to give up on something, or you're back to square one.
If there's any doubt, though, I just look at the shape I am now, (which is literally 3/4 of the shape I was this time last year), and I know what I want.
So, good luck, make a new year resolution, and get stuck in!

Oh, and fresh veg is always a good idea.
Not only is it actually good for you, but you also feel the need to eat it before it goes off and you end up binning it and the pain of wasting your money is a good driver.
Some days I live off vegetables!

Had a ham and tomato omelette fried with butter this morning very filling and good for BG levels.

dried fried, or maybe a spray of 1cal and it's on my menu occasionally as well.

There is no such thing as a universal "easy diet".
Also the so called "healthy diet" is hardly "classic" since it's only been around for at most 35 years.

Depending on where you are starting from adopting it can even equate to a large increase in dietary glucose.

What was you diet pre-diagnosis and before low carbing?

hi, im glad the weight is coming off :)

if it where i... i would leave the toast out completely and add some bacon and mushroom, maybe have 2 eggs

lunch id leave out the ryvita and cut up some huge chunks of cheddar cheese which id eat with some blueberries (i like that combination) if i were to eat cottage cheese which i wouldnt cos its yuk lol, id probly be dipping celery in it and crunching it down, but id be going for cream cheese

chicken salad and chicken with veg for tea is awesome but you need jelly and double cream for afters :)

throw some nuts down during the day for a snack

douglas will not like this but, eating that way ill help you lose weight, not get hungry, reduce you blood sugars and reduce your cholesterol, well it did for me anyway

this is all just my opinion :)

oh and also because i like antagonising douglas lol, just kidding douglas old chap

My dietician really need to meet you.

And I really want to know which one of us will outpost the other.
Hope it's a long time obviously, but I reckon you're up for the bet, from the way you post. :)

i believe in what im doing and you arent sure yet hehe, and since i intend to be around when the world realises low carb is the answer and its widely used in general life not just to treat db, eventually you will come round to my way of thinking hehe, so i reckon i already won (unless i get banned which is very likely because i cant help running my mouth lol) (which isnt my fault its an auto immune issue :) )
