Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi

I am new here. Been reading posts for a long time but this is the first time I have posted on here. I was diagnosed with type 2 nearly 12 years ago. I couldn't understand this as I did not eat convenience foods and I have not added sugar to my diet for over 40 years. I have been listening to a seminar from the iThrive community and one of the doctors mentioned about mercury poisoning contributing to diabetes. I was having problems with my gums around 2004. I seemed to be always taking antibiotics. In the end the dentist decided I needed to have all my teeth out. I had a lot of amalgam fillings. He took them out at the rate of 1 a week and sometimes he missed a week as I was so ill. He took no precautions though. I have read that I should have been wearing an oxygen mask at the time to stop me inhaling the fumes. After this I started suffering with my ears and throat with abscesses at time. In 2006 I moved to my present address and 3 weeks later I was in hospital having lost all my white blood cells. Nothing was ever done to find out why this had happened. This is when my blood sugar rose and I was diagnosed as diabetic.

I have been on Metformin and insulin injections for some time. On 10th February I collapsed and lost the use of my legs. I had been seeing some articles about Metformin sickness so decided to take a look at the symptoms. I was suffering from all of them so refused to take any more tablets. Since then I have been feeling better in myself and was mobile the same day that I collapsed. My sugar readings are all over the place. I don't know if I should still be injecting insulin. My doctor here is useless on the matter. For him medication is always the answer. When I asked him about mercury poisoning he said they don't test for that in Spain. Sorry for such a long thread but it is good to get it off my chest. I just want to know if anyone else has had the same experience and what would happen if I stopped injecting insulin. It doesn't matter what I eat my blood sugar still goes up.

  1. Not eating convenience foods or sugar may reduce your risk of getting type 2 diabetes (by making you less likely to become overweight) but it doesn't mean that you won't get it.
  2. There is evidence of an association between mercury exposure and diabetes but the evidence is not strong enough to say that mercury exposure causes diabetes https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28482296
  3. Although a mask may be recommended to prevent inhaling fumes when mercury fillings are removed by drilling, this would not apply when removing teeth as the fillings are undisturbed when the tooth is pulled
  4. Here is some information about low white cell count:- https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320299.php
  5. It's important to get your blood glucose levels under control otherwise you risk suffering complications. There are many alternatives to metformin so you should see your GP to discuss them. Some people try low carb diets, e.g. https://www.dietdoctor.com/
