I got permission to post this. I have been corresponding regularly with David Mendosa for years.

Dear Hana,

Please note Dr. Bernstein's reply.

I 've tested all my new patients over the past 23 yrs for short term memory before the low carbo diet.

I recite Sam Spade's 6 digit license # and ask the patient to recite it in reverse order. This test

Appears in the MINI MENTAL STATUS EXAM. About 1/3 of those on high carbo diets make

At least one error, indicating at least mild dementia. After a few weeks on a 30gm CHO/D diet virtually all get it correctly.

Since my patients are all diabetic, this probably relates to blood sugar.

I now have the download of the article. It's long and will need some concentration.

I'm convinced that the fault in the Tufts study is is length. It takes time for the metabolism to go over from carbs to ketones and I'm sure that they didn't let the subjects get through the adaptation period. If they had they might have found the same results as Bernstein. David told me he's never been sharper himself and he's VERY low Carb. Has ditched any and all medication and is a little older then me.
