rude people, state the country is now in, and how diabetes is monitored..
does anyone else have a problem with metaformin?I was on fast acting metaformin. 2 tablets twice a day until I started to get diahorrea.
This had cleared up since I stopped taking metaformin and was prescribed the slow acting one instead.
I took my first one this afternoon and by 8.30 had my diarrhea come back.
Anyone else had any experience of this?I dont know what to do for the best anymore and am desperate to have a life free from diarrhea. At the moment I am now not taking any further metaformin.

Hi. It's best to build-up Metformin (even SR) slowly over several weeks. I would re-start with just one tablet per day and increase by, say, 1 per week until you reach the total of 4.

I was on metformin for weeks and had an upset stomach all the time. Eventually they put me on slow release metformin, and that had exactly the same effect. Apparently there are a few people who just don't get on with either type although, like Diabell says, it's worth persevering, as most people get used to the slow release version and lose the side effects after a week or two.

Eventually, I got put on gliclazide, which lowers blood sugar in a different way. Metformin makes your body use the insulin you're producing better, while gliclazide makes your body produce more insulin. Never had a problem with gliclazide.

i had only taken one tablet.I am going to ring the doctor in the morning.I think i have developed an intolerence to metaformin maybe they can suggest an alternative.

update.. I have seen doctor today. He has taken me off metaformin and says not to take it now under any cicumstances. I just have to take my insulin and see how my blood sugars go without, he also said there are plenty of other medications other than metaformin that dont cause diahorrea. So this is what I am doing.Got an appointment with the diabetic nurse in ten days to discuss how I am going with my blood sugars.Since stopping this nasty drug I have had no diarrhea.
