Meter Ranges???

Hello all,

Since I have a family history of diabetes I bought a meter /
few years ago to check myself occasionally. Recently my fasting levels have been slightly in the prediabetic range. 100-115 mg/dl.

My doc did an A1C that was perfectly normal.

Just yesterday she handed me a new meter. Checked my levels with it and got an 83. I've not seen anything that low in so long I can't even remember it. A second test with the the same sample using both meters resulted in an 85 and a 101.

20 ish points difference seems a bit much to me but I know the tolerances can leave something to be desired.

Should I be concerned? How much attention should I pay to the differing readings?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi Jim, those readings fall within the set error margin and are compliant with the latest ISO standards.

The most important thing when testing BG is to spot trends rather than focus too hard on the numbers. Obviously the values are important, but they will almost always fall within the +/- 15% so it doesn't matter so much.

I have found an old meter which was my mother in laws and it has a setting for calibration - it requires a solution of glucose from the pharmacy which I did not realise I needed. I just bought strips and lancets for it, then I read the manual. Could your meter have the same system?
