Type 2 Meter Reading

Just done a meter reading 3 hours after ham and eggs. Reading of 8.2. Thought this was odd so checked again and 7.3 and then again 7.4.

Using a TEE2 meter.

Seems like 7.2 is a discrepancy. What would cause this?

Rogue strip, fleck of dust/food/soap on your finger, etc. Meters are only expected to be accurate to within plus or minus 15%. We all get rogue readings, but nothing we can do about them.

Ok thanks

I'm using a TEE2 too and quite often seeing numbers out of sync with the rest of the day. Like you, I re-test, and obviously if I get roughly the same again I have to accept that it's true, but if I get a rather different number I'm not sure what to think. Unlike you, I'm too mean to use up 3 strips on one reading! Today I got a surprise 7.2 and when I re-tested I got 7.4, so that was me told! I'm pretty inexperienced. I'm hoping over time patterns will emerge so that I'll have a better idea which readings are incorrect.

Yes, if your re-test is much the same, that is probably what you are. However, if the re-test is very much different I tend to do a 3rd and depending what that says, I sometimes just average all 3 for my own records. It doesn't happen that often. Usually 2 of them are close together.

I get readings all over the place if I test more than once at a time - it's very frustrating as I don't know which one is 'correct'

OK, maybe next time this happens I'll splurge on a third strip. After all rogue/unexpected readings don't happen so very often. Given the huge cost of my obsessive testing habit anyway, one strip more or less ...
