hi wondered if anyone can help. i am type 2 dibeties and was on metformin but found the side effects horrendous so i was put on sr metformin which was much better but i have now developed an allergy to it ( lips are swelling and peeling and red raw)l i am also on sitiglipton, doc and nurse want me to go on drug that puts on weight (sorry cant remember how to spell) but i not keen and also mentioned insulin injection that surposed to help you lose weight. has anyone else had any rections to sr metformin or had any success with the weight loss insulin? any advice would be greatly appriciated :)

Hi. I think the tablet you make have been thinking of was possibly Gliclazide? It can cause some weight gain. Normally insulin causes some weight gain unless you also control your carb intake as the insulin enables your body to make use of the carb and convert easily to energy. You must be guided by the GP/nurse but do try to control your carb intake as this will help your blood sugar control and enable you to have the minimum of insulin or tablets
