Metformin - B12 Deficiency!!!!!

Just a point - I've been on Metformin for about 8 years now - still having bowel problems - and was blaming that for all sorts of problems. However I've just been diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism (a benign tumour on my parathyroid glands which is causing excessive calcium in my blood) and this may be the thing causing many of the extra issues.

The point is - don't automatically blame Metformin and B12 deficiency - get it checked out by a doctor.

I have now been diabetic for 2 years, it's been quite a roller coaster! I feel that I should have had B12 injections judging by all that has been shared on this site, experiences, good and bad, I find myself now, as I mentioned previously as I cannot have a normal diet, I prescribed myself to take, Vit. C, D, 12,Magnesium and Vit.6.... I take folic acid daily this prescribed by G.p., for my diabetic. I still do not believe that Metformin is the golden tablet for all....and is really offered purely for weight control? As I am disabled and need a mobility scooter, no walking for me sadly, I have no exercise due to chronic pain I live with daily...but I'll just carry on until? With 500mg of Metformin every other day, the lady who mentioned her nails....my finger nails started to go brown, abd then peeled layer by layer, this really upset me, I also had quite a lot of hair lost....this is by no means vanity....but an awful side of diabetes...plus other medical problems as well. I wish you all good health, and better days...love kathy
