None in the short term.

Metformin has a cumulative effect, and will benefit your BG levels, and also your Insulin sensitivity over a long period.

What it won't do is reduce any post meal spikes, the spikes that cause the damage to our organs. Only diet will do that.
It helps to a limited extent by reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver in times of fasting, stress, illness and so on, and also helps in the long term with insulin resistance by (supposedly) reducing the appetite, which helps you lose weight (hopefully). It works on the liver, not the pancreas.

@Wak - Hello and Welcome to the Forum. :) Metformin lowers the amount of sugar created by the Liver, and decreases the amount of sugar absorbed by the intestines. Metformin takes time to build up in your system and can take a couple of months to reach it's full effect. It may also help Type 2 Diabetic's lose weight as it lowers appetite.

Hi. I agree with the other posts so far. Note that you won't notice much of a change in your blood sugar reading - perhaps 1 to 2mmol on average, but it's a good safe drug and does help most of us. The dose can be increased up to 2000mg/day if needed if the GP prescribes that.
