I have been Type 1 for 40 years and have been on metformin for for about 25 years. Why would that be? Why would I be put on it when I was 30 as well as insulin? I am prescribed 1g of Glucophage a day, 2 tabs of 500 in evening. For the past month I have been taking only one because Iwas having stomach issues and my doctor said there was no harm in doing this. I have seen no worsening of my bloody sugar and the stomach is better. But as I said above, I can't help wondering why I am on it and I wanted some advice from perhaps other Type 1s who are on it. Does it keep weight off? From my experience it does not as I am overweight. Does it have other benefits unrelated to blood sugar? Any advice or info greatly appreciated.
