Hello folks. It’s a while since I have been on the forum. I’m diagnosed 11 years Type 2 and was diet controlled for many of those - Metformin for the last 4 or so.
I‘m 59 yrs old. I’m 8st 11, 5’1 - active and mostly veggie.
Diabetes in my family and triggered by a pregnancy. I have been through a great deal of personal difficulty over the last 5 years - life has been turned upside down and my diabetes became one thing too many to control (lesson learned). So, my HbA1C was on an upward trend and it was decided to up my Metformin from 1 a day to 2 a day. Next HbA1C after 3 months on new dose totally shocked me. My dosage doubled and an increase not a decrease. (From 49 to 50). Although I had stopped being strict with my diet, it’s still what I would call fairly controlled. I’m in a new house and getting over a divorce from my alcoholic husband.
Does anyone have any ideas why the increase in medication hasn’t touched the surface when my lifestyle/diet is unchanged. Could it be stress related?
I have now started to use my meter again and I’m back on strict diet control. Now taking 3 Metformin a day and being tested again in 3 months.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thank you x

Stress can definitely affect blood sugars so they may become less of an issue as you settle in to your new house. However 49 to 50 is hardly a rise to worry about. Metformin is a mild drug, diet will have much more of an effect on your readings. I would think with a tightening up of your diet, using a meter and less stress your next reading will be lower again.

Thank you Rachox. I know that, as my NHS nurse said, I only have my big toes in the diabetic water -but I’m still worried about increase and being in the average 8.0 zone which means, damage - yes? But yes, I need to reconnect with the control and my meter. Thank you x
